Pipe Bands & Pipe Band Contests

Annan has a proud history of Pipe Bands and Pipe Band Contests, and this pride is shared by thousands of spectators on the First Saturday in July The date is 4th July in 2026

The Bands compete at Annan Academy playing fields throughout the afternoon in the competition which is run by Dumfries and Ayrshire Branch of the RSPBA. At approx. 18.15 the bands march down Annan High Street, where the competition prizes are presented. The High Street throngs with Pipe Band music reverberating from the Towns beautiful sandstone building, Street crammed with over 5,000 people, enjoying Pipe Band music. The Massed Pipes and Drums march and counter-march along the ancient High Street, at the conclusion of the Day’s ceremonies immediately after the handing back of the Royal Burgh Standard.

The afternoon contest at Annan Academy but, most of all, be there for one of the best sights and sounds anywhere in Scotland – a great way to round off a memorable Annan Riding of the Marches

Each Band competing will be given £100 towards travelling expenses, (this in addition to prize money secure) plus a hamper which they take away, to raise money, for their own funds.
